The Revealed Name – The Lord Who Is

Bible Reading: Exodus 3:13-18

Key Verse Vs 14

"God said to Moses ' I AM who I AM"

DEVOTION

God’s Self-Revelation to Moses
In verse 14, God responds to Moses by saying, “I am who I am.” This profound statement  marks a pivotal moment in the narrative, as God reveals His identity not through a  conventional name but through a declaration of existence and presence.
The Journey of Deliverance
The book of Exodus, particularly chapters 3 through 18, describes the deliverance of Israel  from Egypt. Within these chapters, we encounter key events such as the call of Moses, the  plagues, the Passover, the exodus from Egypt, the crossing of the Red Sea, and the journey  to Sinai. Much like David, Moses is called away from tending sheep to become the
shepherd of God’s people. God appears to Moses at Mount Horeb in flames of fire and  assigns him the great task of leading Israel out of bondage.
Moses expresses his reluctance twice, voicing uncertainty about his own abilities and how  he should present God’s message to Pharaoh. Today’s meditation centers on God revealing  His name and identity to Moses. When Moses stands before the burning bush, he  encounters the mystery of God’s being.
The Meaning of “I Am Who I Am”
God’s answer to Moses’ question, “What is His name?”, is “I am who I am.” This is not  merely a name, but a revelation. God is not defined by time, place, or human  understanding. He is eternal, omnipotent, self-existent, and unchanging. While human  emotions, attitudes, and approaches may shift, God remains constant and unalterable. He  appears to Moses as a reality, not as a distant deity constructed by imagination.
The same “I AM” who spoke to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is present with Moses in his  uncertainty, fear, and inadequacy.
Relevance of God’s Name Today
The significance of “I AM who I AM” continues to speak to us in the present. In moments of  despair, fear, anxiety, and loss of hope, we have a God who is always there to hear and  understand us. He offers comfort and peace, declaring, “I am your strength” when we are
weak, “I AM with YOU” when we are alone, and “I will rescue you” when we face danger.  God invites us to call upon Him in times of trouble, promising to answer us. He is all that we  need in every circumstance. God’s presence is constant; He is not a God of the past or  future, but always “I AM who I AM” for all our needs.

PRAYER

Thank you, Lord, for revealing yourself and answering us in our needs. You are a God who is  always faithful, present, and certain. Help us to trust not in what we see, but in who you  are. Enable us to seek you, trust you, follow you, obey you, and surrender to you.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

Whatever our circumstances may be today, remember that God is not distant, but very  close.
