Hope in Despair

Bible Reading:   1st Peter 4:12-20

Key Verse Vs 20 b

1 Peter 4:12–19 (NIV): So then, those who suffer according to God’s will should commit themselves to their faithful Creator and continue to do good.

DEVOTION

We are often asked or perhaps have asked ourselves, the question: If God is good, why is there suffering in the world? Why do Christians suffer? While suffering can come from many causes, 1 Peter 4:12–19 focuses on suffering that arises specifically because of our faith.
The world around us is increasingly becoming a place where morals and values are often ignored or compromised. How do we then continue to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ?  For example, how do we choose not to cuss, cheat, or compromise our integrity in environments where such behaviors may seem normal? Standing firm in our Biblical values may lead to mockery, exclusion, or even outright rejection, challenges that are often especially hard for young people when peer pressure matters the most.
Yet when we endure hardship for our faith, we are participating in Christ’s story. Resistance or rejection is no longer meaningless; it shapes our character and strengthens our trust in Him. Peter reminds us that if we suffer, it should be for doing good, not for wrongdoing. There is honor in suffering for Christ with integrity. However, in those moments of rejection and suffering we are also called to commit ourselves to our faithful creator and continue doing good. Which can be really hard. As we continue to trust God through challenges, we can be confident that He will come through for us. He is faithful and will make things right in His perfect time.

PRAYER

Lord, thank You for being faithful even in the midst of our struggles. Help us to stand firm in our faith, even when we face resistance or rejection. Give us the strength to do what is right, the courage to trust You, and the grace to reflect Your love in all we do. Remind us that You are always with us, shaping us and guiding us. We place our lives in Your hands, trusting that You will make all things right in Your time. Amen

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

Today, if you are facing challenges because of your faith, commit them into God’s hands. He sees, He knows, and He is faithful—trust that He will come through for you.
