Testing and Temptation

Bible Reading:    Genesis 3:1-13

Key Verse Vs  3 b

“He said to the woman, ‘Did God actually say, “You shall not eat of any tree in the garden”?’” — Genesis 3:1b

DEVOTION

t began not with an explosion, but with a question. The serpent didn’t deny God’s existence; he simply introduced doubt in Eve’s mind. By reframing God’s protection as a restriction, the enemy shifted the focus from the thousands of “Yeses” in the garden to the one single “No.”
This is the anatomy of temptation. We see this play out in verses 1–13 as the dialogue moves from doubt to disobedience, and finally, to distance. When Adam and Eve ate the fruit, their eyes were opened, but their hearts were closed. The immediate result wasn’t the “god-like” enlightenment they were promised; it was shame.
The Creator comes back into the garden, asking, “Where are you?” Instead of running to the One who could heal them, they hid among the trees and began the “blame game”—Adam pointed at Eve, and Eve pointed at the serpent.
Sin thrives in the dark, but grace begins with a question. God’s call in the garden was the first step in a long pursuit to bring His children home. Today, don’t hide your “fig leaves” of shame. Step out into the light; the Father is already looking for you.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, forgive us for the times we have listened to the whisper of doubt instead of the truth of Your Word. Thank You for seeking us out even when we try to hide. Help us to trust Your boundaries, knowing they are born of Your love. Amen.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

Sin promises freedom but delivers a cage; God’s “No” is always a shield for a greater “Yes.”
