Unveiling God's Love to All

Bible Reading: St. Luke 9:1-6

Key verse"If people do not welcome you, leave their town and shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them." (Luke 9:5)

DEVOTION

Luke 9:1–6 presents how Jesus empowered the disciples with authority over evil and sickness and sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God. The disciples do not volunteer themselves; they are called and commissioned. Their authority over demons and diseases indicates that Christian mission is not merely proclamation but a confrontation with forces that dehumanize life. Their mission was marked by simplicity, dependence on God, and a direct engagement with the people they encounter.
The disciples were sent to villages and towns where the marginalized, sick, and oppressed live (Luke 9:6). It highlights the inclusivity of Jesus’ ministry. By instructing them to travel lightly, without excess provisions, Jesus emphasizes reliance on God and hospitality of People. In that era, it was a counter-cultural call to trust and remain in solidarity to encounter a world of uncertainty. It reflects the early Christian understanding of mission as both proclamation and embodied presence. Therefore, mission is not carried by power, wealth, or self-sufficiency but by trust in God and openness to the host community. Acceptance or rejection of the messengers reflects response to the kingdom itself.
It also presents love as action. God’s love is revealed in engagement with those in need (Luke 9:2). The mission of unveiling God’s love requires courage, vulnerability, and a willingness to step into the lives of others, just as the disciples did. True love is both sacrificial and transformative as it invites us to participate in God’s redemptive work. Our mission is not defined by status or resources, but by obedience and love (Luke 9:3). Each act of kindness, each word of encouragement, and each gesture of service unveils God’s love in the world. To follow Christ is to carry this mission daily, trusting that even small acts can become channels of God’s grace and transformation. We have to see mission not as a program, but as faithful participation in God’s healing and liberating work in the world.

PRAYER

Loving God, send me into this day with a willing heart, simple trust, and compassionate hands, that through my life Your love may be revealed to all. Amen.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

God’s mission unfolds when we trust Him enough to go, love enough to serve, and remain humble enough to depend fully on His grace.
