Sustained by Word amidst persecution.

Bible Reading: : Jeremiah 15: 15-21

Key verse

Bible Verse::“I will make you a wall to this people, a fortified wall of bronze; they will fight against you but will not overcome you, for I am with you to rescue and save you,” declares the Lord.” Jeremiah‬ ‭15‬:‭20‬ ‭

DEVOTION

Prophet Jeremiah served God faithfully for about forty years by being His mouthpiece. He urged the Jews to repent and to turn back to God. Unfortunately, the Jews ignored, and rejected him. They were hostile and tortured him as they did not agree with his messages. He was in a crucible of persecution. He left vengeance to the Lord. There were times when Jeremiah felt that ‘the spring of living water’ was unfaithful and had abandoned him. He lived in self pity and disappointment for a short while as he was emotionally traumatized.
God wanted the Jews to turn to Him due to Jeremiah’s preaching. He did not want the prophet to be influenced by the public opinion and sink into their level. God told the prophet to repent and recommissioned Jeremiah to speak His Word boldly as His representative.
God assured Jeremiah to make him like a strong fortified wall of bronze, amidst the ongoing persecution against him. No one would be able to penetrate him or wound him, despite their attempts. Though the Jews were against Jeremiah, they did not prevail, because God was his buckler and shield. God promised to rescue him physically and spiritually. He equipped and empowered Jeremiah to face the challenges of persecution head on with courage, trusting Him. God guaranteed him protection from the evil ones but did not promise that he will not have to face persecution.
It is our duty to intercede on behalf of the persecuted ones for their protection and to empower them with courage to hold on to their faith, without falling away. We must be their voice. We must also pray for the persecutors to come to the saving knowledge of Christ. Just as God transformed persecutor Paul, to be a proponent of Christianity, He is able to convert persecutors to be believers in Christ.

                                             PRAYER

Lord, we uphold the persecuted people all over the world to be emboldened to remain committed to their faith. We pray for the persecutors to be transformed to be believers. Empower us to influence others for God. In Jesus name. Amen
