Pray for the Leaders and peace

Bible Reading:   1 Timothy 2: 1- 4

Key verse: 1 Timothy 2: 1-2
I exhort, therefore, that first of all, supplications, prayers, intersessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men, for kings, and for all that are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.

DEVOTION

The First Epistle to Timothy was written during the last years of our beloved Apostle Paul’s life.  This is a Pastoral Epistle.  St. Paul gives Timothy, a local church leader, and one who had close association with the Apostle, instructions and guidance on how to deal with issues of faith and discipline within the faith community.  Paul wants Timothy to mentally equip himself for a prayerful mindset.  After making the mind suitable for prayer, he should pray for the well being of all persons, especially for kings and those in leadership and authority.  We should do supplications for them.  We should praise God for their lives.  We must intercede for them fervently.  By our prayers God’s blessings and benevolence may come on them.  As a result of our earnest prayers, God will be pleased with us and He may grant by His grace, peace and order in the land.  Jesus Christ himself has commanded his disciples to pray for their enemies and evil doers, and those who persecuted them (Matthew 5: 44).  It can be the will of God that persons become rulers.  Because of the prayers from the believers, rulers and those in authority may implement good programs for the welfare of the land and people.  What is the outcome?  The citizens will get a chance to enjoy prosperity and peace.  They will have the privilege of knowing the truth.  And truth will ultimately set them free.
Today the world is chaotic.  Everywhere we see hatred.  It is a war crazy world we live in.  So let us now surrender ourselves to the will of God.  Let us equip our minds and hearts for a blessed prayerful experience.  Let us pray for our administrators.  Let the land we live be prosperous.  Let us enjoy peace by God’s grace.

PRAYER

O Lord God, open our inner eyes to see everything clearly.  Make the earth suitable for our peaceful existence.  We pray for our rulers and those in authority.  We understand they are your caretakers.  Transform us to be your humble children so that we may dwell here in peace and truth,  Amen.
