Accept one another

Bible Reading:  Philippians 2: 1-4

Key Verse:
“Then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind.”
Philippians 2: 2

DEVOTION

The world today is increasingly marked by selfishness, greed, and an unhealthy fixation on self-love. From financial markets driven by unchecked avarice to the daily rat race to maintain living standards, society reflects the warning Paul gave in 2 Timothy 3:1-2: “In the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud…” These perilous times, fueled by narcissism and greed, sap our strength and peace. Yet, the Bible offers a cure for this condition in Philippians 2:1-4, urging us to embrace humility, compassion, and the transformative practice of accepting one another.
Greed has infiltrated nearly every facet of modern life, creating a world where anxieties over daily matters—such as healthcare, retirement, and family plans—are ever-present burdens rather than sources of peace. The financial markets often prioritize profits over people, leaving individuals with little certainty about their future. Inflation intensifies these worries, forcing families into unending cycles of work just to survive. Life has become a rat race, driven by a toxic culture of comparison, where each day is a struggle to keep up. As Theodore Roosevelt wisely observed, “Comparison is the thief of joy.” This mindset alienates us from one another, fostering division instead of unity. However, Philippians 2:1-4 reminds us of the joy and peace found in unity, compassion, and in truly accepting one another as Christ accepts us.
The cure for this spiritual sickness begins with a shift in perspective. Philippians 2:1-4 calls us to be “like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind.” It challenges us to abandon selfish ambition and vain conceit, replacing them with humility and a focus on valuing others above ourselves. At the heart of this transformation is a commitment to accept one another despite differences, fostering genuine community and mutual care. Christ’s selflessness exemplifies this, as He embraced humanity in its brokenness and showed unconditional love. When we practice this acceptance, we reject the isolation of selfishness and create bonds that heal division and restore joy.
In conclusion, the world’s obsession with greed and self-interest has led to perilous times. But through humility, compassion, and the deliberate act of accepting one another, as taught in Philippians 2:1-4, we can find the cure for this spiritual sickness. By imitating Christ’s example, we move beyond comparison and division to rediscover the joy and peace of living in unity. Let us embrace this calling and transform our world with love.

  PRAYER

Abba father, we pray for unity through your spirit. We pray for a heart of repentance and a hope for renewal and unity with you, Amen.
