THE COMPASSIONATE TOUCH OF JESUS CHRIST THAT SANCTIFIES

Bible portion 2 Kings 5:1-14

Verse:13: Naaman's servants went to him and said,”My father, if the prophet has told you to do some great thing, would you not have done it?

Devotional Text
This portion and the event associated is quite familiar to all , from the Sunday school days.  The King of Aram, Ben Hadad  II  had a peace treaty with the King of Israel, Ahab , but  they still had  clashes  off and on, and in one of the battles King  Ahab was killed.  King Joram of  Israel   was the ruler  during this episode, when  Naaman and his party  visited him with the letter  from King of Aram. Unfortunately  the letter stated a  request to  King of Israel to  cure the leprosy of the commander Naaman.  Probably King of Aram did not pay attention to the words of the Israeli girl,  held in captive in Aramean courts serving   Naaman's wife .The girl told her mistress clearly that the Prophet in Samaria can help Naaman cured. But  Joram  concluded that  Ben Hadad   was trying create a reason for declaring  war, and he was afraid to such an extent,  to tear his robes.
Prophet Elisha  intervened  into the problem, understanding the seriousness of the situation,  asked the King Joram to send Naaman and his party to come to the prophet of Israel for a healing by the sanctifying power of God.
But the pagan commander could not realize , who  the ultimate healer will be, none other than the God, not   the Prophet.. Elisha asked Naaman, through his messenger to go and wash  himself in the muddy waters of river Jordan, seven times  to get healed. Here we  also see Elisha's  chastisement to the King for his failure to consult the Prophet, even though there was a tension existed between Joram and Elisha.( Ch.3:13-14)
Naaman expected to be healed by a magic touch over the spot , rather than obeying the word of God, spoken to him through Elisha. Naaman's healing  was a
sign for the disobedient Israel  too, that the God's blessing and healing is possible only through trustful obedience  to His word.  Naaman was healed physically, reborn, his flesh was restored, became clean like an young boy after obeying the word of the prophet and through the sanctifying power of God.

                                                                    Prayer
Lord Jesus, we believe in the amazing grace you have shown on calvary,
and the blood you shed on the cross can only sanctify and cleanse us from our sin and unrighteousness.                                                        Teach us to be obedient to your word. Amen.
