FAMILY – AN EXPRESSION OF THE KINGDOM OF GOD

 Bible portion: Joshua 24:14-22

Verse:14  “Now fear the Lord and serve him with all faithfullness”.

The setting of this text is Joshua's farewell address to the people of Israel.  It took place at Shechem. The little kings we serve in our lives will determine what we become later in life. It is easy to serve the kings  around us instead of  serving the King of Kings Lord Jesus. It should be made very clear ,whether we have decided to serve the living God. If so
submit our lives to his Lordship . That is the beginning of Christian life.
Joshua reminded the Israelites of the long history of all that God had done  for them, the promises to their ancestors, the deliverence from Egypt, and God's provision through wilderness. He continued,” in the light of all what God had done, “Fear the Lord”.   If so serve him in sincerity and truth, and you will have a special relationship with God. He also gave  a specific choice ,as to whether  they were going serve the living God or the false Gods. Joshua was concerned whether Isreelites would get off the course, to go  in a direction contrary to God. They were in a juncture in life
prone to take a wrong decision. He did not want the people to take a wrong turn spiritually in the days ahead, instead they should choose  to serve the living God. Joshua affirmed his family's decision to serve the Lord.
Israelites knew the saving grace and victory they enjoyed in the presence of the Lord. Yet they were adamant in worshipping  false Gods of their ancestors.  Joshua made a convincing statement to the people to take a correct decision. He wanted them to consider the consequences of alieanation from God, and to consider their committment.  Events following that ,we see a resolution was made by the people to serve the one and only true God and made themselves witnesses to this treaty or a covenantal decision  making.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, help us to serve you, and put faith in you  our everlasting  God.  Help us not to serve false God's around us, accept our commitment to serve you in sincerity and truth. In your name we ask.
Amen.

Thought for the Day

: God  periodically raises men and women before us and confront us. “ Are we having a right relationship with the true and one
living God. It is imperative and serious to examine our relationship with our Lord and savior Jesus Christ.  Are we absolultely convinced of our choice, and made our choice wholeheartedly?
