CHILDREN TO BE BROUGHT FOR CHRIST

St.John.6:1-14
“Another of His disciple, Andrew, Simon, Peter’s brother spoke up, Here’s is a boy with five small barley loaves and two smaller fish, but how far will they go for so many”( Verse.8,9)

This Sunday we are celebrating World Sunday School Day and our theme is “Children to be brought for Christ”.Let us meditate on the Gospel of St.John Chapter 6:1-14, which is quite familiar to us that  Jesus feeding the five thousand. This incident occurred after Jesus healed the lame man by the pool. After went from the shore side to the mountainside and sat down with His disciples. A huge crowd followed Him.  Here a little boy also was in the crowd to listen and to hear Jesus. Their purpose was to hear the teachings of Jesus as recorded in the Sermon on the mountain (St.Mathew, Chapter.5-7).
The logo of the Mar Thoma Sunday School Samajam is “Come to Jesus and bring every Child to Jesus”. In connection with our theme, we have to follow three steps in upbringing Children to Christ Jesus:
1. Children should be brought up: through bringing them to Christ.
Jesus Christ was preaching in the Mountainside, about the Kindom of God. All the multitude followed  Him. The parents of this little boy also took him or send him to Jesus. When we expect our children to be brought up for Christ, take him/her to Jesus. When Jesus was twelve years ago, His parents,  Joseph and Mary took Him to the Temple for worship and studying the Word, “and Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.(St.Luke:2:41 following, V.51). By taking our children to Christ, they are brought up for and with Christ Jesus.
2. Children have to be brought up: through the Word of God.
In order to bring our children to Christ, we have to connect them to the Word of God. In Proverbs  22.6, We read “train up the child in the way he should go, and even when he is old, he will not depart from it”. Here , the entire crowd followed Jesus after seeing the healing the lame man and listening to His wonderful words . Jesus was brought up at home and Temple by learning the  Scriptures and hearing the Word of God from teachers. In other words, He was brought up in and through the Word of God. Our children ought to be brought up by learning the Scriptures and obeying the Word and teachings of our Lord. They should be brought to Sunday School and regular worship so that they will grow in wisdom and knowledge of God.The Church has to encourage our children to attend Sunday School regularly.
3. The Children have to be brought up,: as a blessing for others.
In this episode, Jesus asked the disciples to feed the multitude saying ‘you give them to eat’. Here  Andrew, one of the disciples of Jesus saw the possibility of feeding them with the little might the little  boy had with him, the five loaves and two fish in his hand. Introducing children to Jesus with their  possibility and resources in them and it has to be shared . Jesus blessed the five loaves and two fish and asked the disciples to distribute to 5000 people and they all were fed and satisfied.
The little boy and his little resources became a blessing for many. We Have to find out the possibility  in our children and entrust them to Christ to be a blessing for others .All what we have and our children are God’s gift to us By submitting them in the hands of God,He bless them to be a blessing for others.Let us upbring our children for Christ and for His Kingdom and they will be a blessing for us and  others.

Prayer
Our Lord God, thank you for our Children, enable us to upbring them for your glory and a  blessing for others. Amen.
