The Mystery Revealed

Jessie Samuel

"It is he whom we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone in all wisdom, so that we may present everyone mature in Christ." vs.28

Where do secrets come from? Where do they all start? They begin with little stories and a series of connections. These stories and connections are often passed down from generation to generation. The thoughts and actions of the past bring us here, to the present.
Paul writes this book specifically for the people of Colosse. At that time in history, false teachings had spread like wildfire. Although Paul never visited the church at Colosse, he writes to them to explain the connections they need to understand. Writing from the prison in Rome, Paul implores the people of Colosse not to get caught up in false teachings that were intermingled with the truth. The teachers, at the time, falsely spread the news that this “mystery” was exclusive to the privileged. However God had a bigger plan. Paul calls it a ‘mystery that has been kept hidden for ages’. When Christ came, the mystery was revealed. It is “Christ in you, the hope of glory” (v. 27).

When you accept Christ into your life, God’s plan - that Jesus would live in the hearts of those who believe in Him - becomes revealed in you. There is no longer a mystery. It has been laid out before us and is carried out through us! The Gentiles, especially those in Colosse, needed to hear that. As this little secret was passed down from generation to generation, Christ’s entrance into the world made this secret available to each person who believed in Him. As we read this passage, we are challenged to meditate upon how we know Christ. What has Jesus revealed to us? The message was revealed to Paul and he laboured for the church. Knowing this truth, it becomes our job to share with others this beloved secret today.

PRAYER

Help us, O Lord, to spread the Good News of the mystery that’s been revealed to us. Amen.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:

Always be joyful. Pray continually, and give thanks whatever happens. That is what God wants for you in Christ Jesus.”  1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
