The Purpose of Life!

2 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor

As we  welcome the New Year 2015, we all desire to be better human beings. Most of us try to make several New Year resolutions, but then what happens?  Have you ever thought about why you are at the place that you are in now? Have you ever wondered what exactly must be the purpose of your life?  The purpose of our life must be a reflection of Christ and His work. There’s a passage in the Bible, specifically Isaiah 61:1-11, which talks about our real responsibilities and what we were created to do. When Jesus started His ministry, He went to His hometown and this is the portion He read in the synagogue, which we can read in Luke 4: 14-20. Through this, Jesus was fulfilling the prophesy which was given to the people of Israel by Isaiah over 700 years ago.

Jesus came to this world to “preach the Good News to the poor, to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release the prisoners from darkness.” When Jesus said “to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor”, He was talking about today, this present moment in your life.  The questions we must ask ourselves are: are we preaching the Good News to the poor? Are we binding up the brokenhearted? Are we proclaiming the freedom for the captives and spreading the light to this dark world? Are you fulfilling the purpose of your life? If not, as Isaiah 61; 2 says, “The day of vengeance of our God,” is coming soon. He will ask you for what you have done. The world that we are living in today is filled with darkness but the promises of our Father as seen in Isaiah 61 will be fulfilled, where God will come back to restore peace and happiness in this world. There will be a Genesis again and that day as it is stated in Isaiah 61:4, “He Himself will rebuild the ancient ruins and restore the places long devastated;” He will also, “renew the ruined cities that have been devastated for generations.”

PRAYER

O Lord, Jesus, help us to be like you and live like you did and do all things with your hand guiding us every step of the way.  In Jesus name, we pray, Amen!

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
As it is said in Isaiah 61:8, Lord loves justice and hates robbery and iniquity. Are you living a justified life?
