Healing: God’s Mercy and Extended Life

Bible Reading: 2 Kings 20: 1 – 11

Key Verse:‘This is what the Lord, the God of your father David says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will heal you. ( 2 kings 20: 5 )

DEVOTION

Hezekiah was the king of Judah and he became ill and was at the point of death. The prophet Isaiah  went to him and said, “This is what the Lord says: Put your house in order, because you are going to die; you will not recover.  Hezekiah prayed to the Lord, “Remember, Lord, how I have walked before you faithfully and with wholehearted devotion and have done what is good in your eyes.”
Many have asked, why good people suffer or why good people die at a young age?
At times, events happen in our lives for which no human explanations can be offered. Sometimes we question God. Even the righteous get sick as we see in today’s reading as well as in the book of Job, but God hears the prayer of the righteous. God heard Hezekiah’s prayer, healed him and added fifteen years to his life. When we are in Christ, we are clothed in his righteousness and today’s Bible portion assures us that God sees our tears, hears our prayers and in His great mercy heals our infirmities.
Just like Hezekiah needed physical healing, we all need physical or spiritual healing. While it is great to be healthy and receive an extension of this earthly life, it is even better to receive an extension of our life to eternity. In His mercy, God is promising us just that. He will heal our brokenness and make us right with Him through His son Jesus Christ so that we might live with Him forever in His Kingdom.

   PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank you for your infinite love and mercy. Please help me to walk faithfully before you and lead me to do what is good in your eyes. Thank you for sending your beloved son Jesus to us so that we may have life, and have it to the full. Amen

Thought for the day

Let us be the vessels that carry God’s love and mercy, to bring healing to a hurting world.
