Generational Blessing and the legacy of Faith

Bible Reading: Deuteronomy 6:6-9

Key verse: V6 “these commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts, Impress them on your children”.

DEVOTION

In Deuteronomy 6:6-9, Moses’ main message is to constantly teach and meditate on God’s laws, deeply integrating them into daily life by sharing them with children and openly discussing them at all times. This passage in the Bible emphasizes the importance of knowing God and loving Him with all of one’s heart, soul and strength. The single most powerful influence in a child’s life is his or her parent’s visible passionate love for the Lord Jesus Christ.
The greatest legacy one can pass on to one’s children and grandchildren is not money or material things accumulated in one’s life, but rather a legacy of character and faith: What we want to teach our children? Teach the children to love God and live a Christ centered life and to faithfully serve Him and his church in every way possible. That is our hope and prayer for our children. Every aspect of our life should be centered on or around God. Love the God means it requires action. Parents should model good behavior and stewardship of blessings and  show their children. “Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it” (Proverb 22:6). If we want to establish faith with in our kids we have to do what we say. Children don’t just become what we say, but they often become what they see. We have to make sure what we say is reinforced with what we do because what we do it speaks so much louder and communicates so much more. Faith can be established in our kid’s life through what we do. We have to expose them to the joy of truly loving God Relationship with God is everlasting. We have to let our children see that how we are spending time in worshipping God; how is our relationship with God, spending time with his word and how we spend time in prayer. Let them see what we do. “By wisdom a house is built and through understanding it is established, through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures” (Proverbs 24: 3-4).
For followers of Jesus leaving a legacy of faith is essential, we want others to see our faith in action after we are gone. A faith legacy inspires others to live out their faith boldly too. Some times for many generations.

PRAYER

Lord God you are worthy of all my love. Forgive me for loving the things of this world, things that are created, rather than the creator. Teach me to love you with all my heart, soul and strength. Help me to lead a life of genuine obedience. Amen

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

“There is no doubt that it is around the family and the home that all the greatest values, the most dominating values of human society are created, strengthened and maintained”.
