Holy Spirit who Renews All Creation

John 16:1-15

“But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.” (v.13)

Devotion
We as a church are celebrating the feast of the Pentecost on Sunday.  The word Pentecost is from the Greek word Pentēkostē which means 50th.  It is a celebration 50 days after the feast of the Resurrection.  The feast of the Pentecost commemorates the descending of the Holy Spirit on the Apostles and disciples following the Ascension of our Lord and the mission of the Holy Church that follows this.  Originally, in the Jewish custom, Pentecost was the celebration of thanksgiving of the first fruits of the harvest of wheat.  From Jewish traditions to now as we commemorate the Christian tradition, let us celebrate also with thanksgiving remembering that God did not let His children go empty handed.
We as children of God are gifted differently, and at the same time, we are guided to move through those gifts by the help and presence of the Holy Spirit.  This reminds us that God is continually with us and will never leave our side and will strengthen us.  As we read today’s passage, it is the farewell discourse of Jesus to His disciples just before His betrayal by Judas and crucifixion. Hearing Jesus up to this point, the disciples were confused, depressed and upset.  Jesus was assuring them that whatever takes place, it is for the good, along with that, He will provide.  This is also same for our lives as well.  As you read this, you may also call to mind some things that are burdening you.  But remember, facing challenges is part and parcel of life.  Jesus after He was baptized went into the wilderness.  We too also need to persevere in our wilderness experience but at the same time remembering that God is and will always watch over us.  The Holy Spirit will comfort, console and guide us.  God provides, we just need to trust.

Prayer

Triune God, thank You for Your manifold blessings in my life, help me to know You are there with me, and guide me to move for You.  Amen,

Thought for the Day
“Trying to do the Lord’s work in your own strength is the most confusing, exhausting, and tedious of all work. But when you are filled with the Holy Spirit, then the ministry of Jesus just flows out of you.” – Corrie Ten Boom
