Holy Spirit: One Among Trinity
St.John 14:14 --2I .
And I will ask the Father-and He will give you another Counselor, to be with you for ever(v.15)
Devotion
We are meditating about the Holy Spirit, the One among Trinity. This devotion comes between, the Feast of Ascension of our Lord and the Feast of Pentecost Sunday. 14th chapter of St. John’s Gospel is a farewell address of our Lord Jesus Christ, given to His disciples, before His passion, crucifixion, death and resurrection, in order to strengthen them in their , faith, discipleship and mission.
Holy Spirit is one of the persons among the Triune God. The basic faith of the Church is that we believe in one God with three persons, such as Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. This is affirmed in the Scriptures and confessed through the Nicene Creed of the Church. Here we are focusing our meditation only to the Holy Spirit, as one among Trinity, referred in the Gospels portion. Here Jesus promises His disciples that, He will ask the Father to send them another comforter to help them for ever, the Spirit of Truth. Let us meditate three aspects of the Holy Spirit.
1. promise about the Holy Spirit is given to us.
Jesus said, ”If you may ask for anything in my name and I will do it”(v.14).I will ask my Father and He will give you another counselor to be with you for ever, the Spirit of truth.(v.15). Here we can see the promise of the Holy Spirit is given to the disciples. Jesus will ask the Father to send the Holy Spirit and the Father will send the Holy Spirit upon them . He further promised that “I will not leave you as orphans ,I will come to you” (v.18).
Our Jesus Christ is with us even today. His presence through the Holy Spirit is given to us in the time of frustration, fear and loneliness.
2. The presence of the Holy Spirit is with us.
The Father God sent His Spirit upon the disciples and all the believers, on the day of Pentecost (Acts.2), as promised by our Lord Jesus Christ. He is the very presence of God with us. He is a good counselor, comforter and guide and gives right direction in the time of difficulty, discomfort and trauma(John.20;22,Acts.2).
When we are lonely, and undergoing difficulties, the ever comforting presence of the Holy Spirit is with us to guide and comfort us. He will show the right path in our daily lives. Let us experience the presence of the Holy Spirit and can follow him daily.
3.The power of the Holy Spirit is with us.
Our Lord Jesus Christ, exhorted the disciples, not to leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised.(Acts:1:4,Luke: 24:49,John,14:16).” But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and all Judea and Samaria and the ends of the earth (Acts; 1: 8).
The Holy Spirit strengthen us to bear witness to Jesus Christ and the entire salvation event. Today we live in the age of the Holy Spirit .We have to believe God’s promise, presence and the power of the Holy Spirit in our daily lives and to proclaim the gospel to all.
