 Remember The Poor

Ecclesiastes 9:1-10

“So I reflected on all this and concluded that the righteous and the wise and what they do are in God’s hands...”  Ecclesiastes 9:1

Devotion
King Solomon had everything in the world - fame, family, fortune, wisdom, wealth and slaves. However, he was still despondent. In the book of Ecclesiastes, Solomon describes his observation and attitude towards life.
In chapter 9, he talks about the unfairness of life. Good men suffer while wicked men prosper. Life is short so it is important to make the most of it. So enjoy life. Many people experience pessimism and hopelessness like King Solomon did. He doubted the existence of the afterlife.
In the new testament, we have solid belief in the afterlife. True happiness of life comes from God when we center our lives to God. God will bring every deed into judgment whether it is good or bad. He would ultimately judge all people with fairness.
Everyone who claims to be Christian has the duty to help those who are poor. In James chapter 1 verse 27, it tells us “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”

Prayer
Most loving father, help us to understand the true meaning of life. We are self-centered very often. Forgive us for being selfish. Help us to love one another and help others wherever needed. In Jesus name, Amen

Thought for the Day
“There are two kinds of poverty. We have poverty of materials. But there is a much deeper, much greater poverty, and that is hunger of love and terrible loneliness, being unwanted, unloved and being abandoned by everybody.” Mother Teresa
