 Discipleship — Call for Mission

Isaiah 8:11-18

“The Lord Almighty is the one you are to regard as holy, He is the one you are to fear, He is the one you are to dread.”

Our text for today’s meditation is written by prophet Isaiah, son of Amos. The kingdom of Judah was threatened and insulted by their enemies. They schemed against them. Isaiah’s purpose and mission for that time was to motivate the discouraged king and the subjects of Judah. He told them not to be afraid for God is powerful and will save them. They were to stand firm in their faith and see the redemption of the Lord. He can do the impossible.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. We must approach God with reverence, for who He is. When we recollect and thank Him for how He has rescued us in the past, it will give us the strength and courage to face today’s storm, looking up to Him for help. God is our Refuge, our Ark, our Tower, and our Stronghold. We just must run to Him in faith. Call on the name of the Lord, and He will save us. He will never forsake us. He has our names engraved on the palms of His hands. He loves us unconditionally. He hovers over us; He protects us like a mother hen keeping her chicks from harm’s way. We are protected in His safety net. No one can snatch us from His hand. But for those who don’t believe in Him, He will be a stumbling block to trip and fall. Just like the citizens of Judah, we must focus on our Omnipotent God, rather than on our enemies and our circumstances. He is our only hope. Nothing is impossible with God.
Nothing surprises Him, He knows the end from the beginning. Our negative circumstances are the tests of our faith. We must bring our issues to God in prayer, He hears us, He is never busy for us. Isaiah discipled the inhabitants of Judah, taught them the will of God. He was a shepherd to them. He was God’s mouthpiece, His spokesman. We are also given the commission to make disciples of all the nations. Are we fulfilling our God given commission?

Prayer

God, You are my Corner Stone, I submit myself and my circumstances into your hands. I cast my burden on you. I trust in you. Amen.
