SING TO THE LORD

 Joel 2:27-32

V. 28

And afterward,I will pour out my spirit on all people.......

…..your young men will see visions.

Chapter two of Joel's book starts with an impending disaster which will occur in the land of zion due to their disobedience  and resultant God's wrath. The phrase “day of the Lord “ occurs 5 times in Joel, which refers to the decisive intervention of God in history, such as through invasion of locusts and  cosmic chaos. It can also refer to Christ's coming to consummate the history. Final day of the Lord has two aspects: 1.God's triumph over and punishment of His enemies. 2. granting security  and blessing to His people. Later part of chapter 2, we see the Lord pitied on His people and sending all the blessings to the land. In v21and v23, Lord  encourages them to be glad and rejoice  while singng to the Lord for he has given them back everything in abundance.

V28 says, And afterward ?  Prophet Joel was describing promises of God,that time and when the nation of Israel will return and repent of their disobedience.  But this has not yet occured  as a nation, so there was only a partial out pouring of His spirit only as on the day of pentecost as decribed in the book of acts (acts2:16-18), and there remains a final and complete fulfillment of pouring out of spirit in the last days to come. It means that spirit will be poured out to every soul that place their faith in Messiah.  It is worth noting that peter replaced

“afterward in Joel 2:28  with “the last days” of acts 2:17.

Outpouring of the spirit  is a signal that end time era has arrived

and three things will happen in the last days. 1. spirit will be poured out to every soul 2. supernatural signs will be seen on earth and in sky.3. Salvation granted to those who call on the Lord and repent. The first coming is the inauguration of the messaianic age, and the second coming is the  day of the Lord with its cosmic chaos.  Whosoever calls on the name of the risen Lord will be delivered. This is one of the greatest promises in all of the scripture.

Lastly,Joel 2:32, Prophet is speaking to Jewish audience, that they too will be delivered from the wrath of God,if they call on the deliverer, Lord Jesus Christ, and he will provide a way of escape for the ungodly too in the day of the Lord from His wrath if they call out to God and repent.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, we know your second coming is near, and in the day of the Lord protect us from the wrath of the almighty. Let all your people as well as ungodly may know your name and repent to get delivered. Amen.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

How well are you aware of the signals which show the  “ Day of the Lord  “ is near and the end time era has arrived ?
