 FORETASTE OF ETERNAL LIFE

St.Mathew 25: 14-46

Vs.46 Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.

Parable of talents portrays Kingdom  of God, a story that illustrates how the disciples are to wait until the Lord returns.  The main message of this text explains that it is a privilege God entrusts  to everyone with talents, resources and opportunities to work toward God's purposes in the world. The parable teaches us that if we use our talents in a trustworrthy and faithful manner, we can be counted as  trustworthy servants of God, no matter how big or small our accompishments may seem. Five life lessons we  could learn from this parable are, 1. God entrusts us with gifts and resources with blessings.2.He expects us to use our gifts wisely. 3. He does not judge us all by the same standard. 4.We will be held accountable. 5 We are called to grow in the Lord.
This parable is located in Jesus' eschatological discourse :- where he instructed His disciples to endure through difficult times and to live in anticipation of the Lord's return. Like in all other parables, this one exemplifies the certainty of Lord's return , and the disciples are to live faithfully in the mean time.
The fidelity of the disciples, while waiting for His return is just copying the ministry of Jesus, he commanded them to continue. They are, feeding the hungry, healing the sick, blessing the meek, and in serving the least in the society.
God wants our life to overflow with mercy, love and compassion, the marks of His Kingdom. We have a choice, either to repsond to the realities around us in fear and withdraw, or to repond to the needs of our times with love and hope. Being ready for His return which involves more than playing it safe and doing little or nothing, but it demands the kind of service that produce results. Verses 31-46  explains God's judgement  which  will occur at the beginning pf the earthly millenial Kingdom. The judgement refers to, occurs at the great white throne at the end of the age, which will determine who will be allowed to enter, into the eternal kingdom of the saved, and who will be sent to the eternal punishment. Jesus said, “ whatever  you did not do to the least of these, you did not do it for me”. To whom does Jesus refer?    It can be the hungry, thristy, needy, poor or the marginalized,  His apostles or missionaries  or His jewish brothers. Hence our reward of eternal life or eternal punishment depends on our deeds in this life in response to His commandment.

Prayer
Our merciful father, help us to be responsive to your commandment to look after the needy with compassion , mercy and love. Forgive our insensitivity towards the poor and   the marginalized. Enable us to wait for your return in anticipation.
Strengthen us and help us to emulate  your ministry you want us to continue. Amen

Thought for the Day
Rewards in the kingdom of heaven are given to those who serve without the thought  of the reward.
