BODY: THE TEMPLE OF GOD TO BE KEPT IN HOLINESS
Proverbs: 23:1-20
Vs 20-21 Be not among drunkards or among gluttonous eaters of meat for the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty and slumber will clothe them with rags.
Every year Oct 3rd is celebrated as temperance day, people are advised, challenged and counseled to give up alcohol and all addiction habits and lead an alcohol free, drugs free life. Paul says in 1Cori 5:25 that an athlete exercises control to gain his perishable medal in the earth. If so we the unperishable how much more shall we be vigilant to gain our crown of righteousness One. of the fruit of the spirits is self-control which one gets upon receipt of the holy spirit.2 Pet 1:5-9 reads “For this very reason do your best to add goodness to your faith, to your goodness add knowledge, to your knowledge add self-control and to your self-control add endurance. to your endurance add godliness and to your godliness add Christian affection and to your Christian affection love. These are the qualities you need and if you have these in abundance, they will make you active and effective in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ,”
In today’s devotion from the book of Proverbs words of the wise mainly few do not warnings are given. We must be prudent and shall not be deceived at the eater’s table. We must control our appetite and don’t be a glutton. We shall not be a slave to cravings for food like Isaac, Overeating is also a sin and destroys our health. Our body is the abode of God’s living, and it shall be protected from all sorts of lusts and demands of the flesh. The do not list continues in this chapter. We shall not make an idol of wealth. When wealth becomes a priority man seeks all means including overworking to amass it and ultimately lean towards the devils and its traps 6-8 says not to eat at the table of a stingy man as since he is a miser what ever he offers is with a painful and troubled heart. He is envious and covetous and has an evil ungenerous life. We are not allowed to steal from others nor hear the advice of a fool. We shall not neglect the wisdom of the wise and do not fail to correct the children as needed. Our parent’s counsel and wisdom is like gold and shall be always zealous for the fear of God, All sorts of addiction and adultery will kill us slowly and shall be seeking God to get rid of all these evils Our body is the temple of God and we have to keep it most sacred.
