Colossians 1: 1-13Key Verse: “For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves.” - Colossians 1:13
Epaphras, a native of Colossi had been converted to Christianity due to Paul’s ministry in Ephesus. He was a faithful minister of Christ. He preached the Gospel to the Colossians, and many came to Christ. Unfortunately, Heretics and Gnostics infiltrated the church at Colossae, and misled the members from the truth. Epaphras visited Paul in the Roman prison with this disturbing news. In response, Paul penned an epistle to the Colossian church, refuting the claims of the Gnostics and sent it to his recipients through his messenger Tychicus.
Paul exposed the truth that the Gnostics tried to suppress, and thus, tried to deviate the body of Christ from the right path. The truth is God rescued and liberated humanity from the grips, power, dominion, authority, and tyranny of Satan’s kingdom of darkness where we were held captive. God lifted us from our miserable, horrible, hopeless, ignorant state of falsehood, deception, and sin. He emancipated us, transformed us, transferred us and transplanted us into the Kingdom of light, under the benevolent rule of the Sovereign Christ. This was achieved by the sacrifice of His only begotten Son on our behalf. He loves us beyond measure. We are citizens of light and must bear the fruits befitting the Kingdom
Prayer: Heavenly Father, embolden us to live for you, and bear the fruit of the Spirit. Empower us to spread the Gospel and win many souls for you. Amen.
Thought for the day: “I will rescue you from your own people and from the Gentiles. I am sending you to them to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.’”
