Feast of Nativity Birth of the Savior: Joy to the World

ISAIAH CHAPTER 9, Verses (1-7)

Isaiah Chapter 9 verses 1-7 is all about how the Darkness turns to Light. The first section of the chapter describes the blessing of light appearing in a place of darkness. The second section verses 6-7 talks about where we can find this hope and light when we are in the dark. In the beginning, it says “Nevertheless, there will be no more gloom for those who were in distress.“ This verse is trying to say that those who have suffered in the name of God will see a greater reward in the future. Verses 2-5 describe how God's people who suffered will grow in number, and their joy will increase. They will be joyful in God’s presence just as men are when they beat you in war, and because of this, those who trust will break free of the pain and their burden. Verses 6-7 are very familiar verses, and we often hear this during Christmas. “For unto us a Child is born, Unto us, a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isiah here predicts a savior to come in the coming generations, one who will save them from their sins, and provide them with the light to set them free of all the burdens they faced from their enemies and problems.

The Hope of Coming Light (Isaiah 9:1-5)
Nothing can ever separate us from God's love, and those who are in Christ have nothing to fear. We now dwell in the Spirit of God because we accepted the gospel. While we wait for God to identify us as His sons, we suffer alongside Christ and the rest of creation. We are assured that God is for us and that He loves us in Christ thanks to the guidance of the Spirit, and that in the future our reward will be great in the Kingdom of God.

How do we find that light in the darkness (Isaiah 9:6-7)
For us, Jesus was born on this earth, so that we could find hope in him. Isaiah describes him as the “Prince of Peace”, Jesus is our source of strength and peace during our trials and tribulations, and we should keep him close to have that peace.

Prayer

Lord, Thank you for showering your blessings and mercies on us every day, thank you for saving us in times of need, and for being our strength and peace when we were weak. Lord help us and allow us to spread your message and word to those around us, and to those who don’t know about you. Allow this coming week to be a blessed one, be with us your children, and help those who are weak and in need, all this I pray in Jesus' name. AMEN
