People of God: Ministry and Model

Titus 2:1-11

“In everything, set them an example by doing what is good. Your teaching shows integrity, seriousness and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us.” - Titus 2: 7-8

Imagine when you were in high school. Your parents bought you new clothes for your first day of high school and you were so happy to impress everyone. When you walked in through those doors, everyone came up to you. You begin to smile ear to ear and begin telling them where you got your clothes from and how much it costs. In life, we feel as if we have to impress everyone we meet. From our clothes to our cars, we have a deep desire not embarrass ourselves and look perfect. But how much time do we spend to impress God? The feeling when we have talking about our new clothes or cars should be the same proud feeling when we preach the Gospel to others. God wants us to have that effect so that more people can understand His love and follow his instructions through the word. He wants us to share the Word to those who don’t know it. The role of the church is to spread the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Matthew 5: 14-16 reads, 'You are the light of the world'. By Jesus saying “You are the light of the world”, we are to shine even when we don't know it. This verse is similar to the motto of Abraham Mar Thoma Metropolitan: Every Marthomite is a missionary. Metropolitan Thirumeni strongly believed that evangelism was the responsibility of every member of the Church and not of the clergy alone. He emphasized that every man and woman was called to be the witness of Jesus Christ, irrespective of race, gender, creed, and caste. It was this conviction that led him to organize groups of people and give them specialized training in personal evangelism. In our lives, we should strive to be a beacon to others. Especially as Marthomites, we are Lighted to Lighten others. When we receive our First Communion, Thirumeni hands us a candle, symbolizing that we are the light of the world. This means that every man and woman is called to be the witness of Jesus Christ, preaching the Gospel to all others.

Thought for the Day:
"God does not give us everything we want, but He does fulfill His promises, leading us along the best and straightest paths to Himself.” - Dietrich Bonhoeffer

Prayer:
Dear God, thank you for your word that gives us the spiritual nourishment we need. Help us to grow in grace, mature in faith and knowledge of you. Amen
