 VICTORY THROUGH  FASTING AND PRAYER

 Bible portion :  1cori:7 1-5

Verse:5  “ do not deprive each other except by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves for prayer”.

Apostle Paul in  1 corinthians 7  was trying to reply or continuing discussion on those points which had been submitted to the apostle in a letter from the church in Corinth.  Corinth was one of the largest cities in the Roman world, a strategic commercial center, and was most corrupt in all areas including immorality. The place was full of false teachers, immature believers, and people of many ideas. The Christians in Corinth especially had a lot of difficult situations regarding marriage.  Since so many ideas existed on marriage, the question was whether oneness is possible in marriage?  Can you even know how to build up spiritual intimacy in marriage?
God instituted marriage and declared oneness.  It was the false teachers reported in 1 Tim4:3  that were forbidding the marriage. The Jewish tradition looked on marriage as the ideal state, and singleness as disobedience to God's commandment to marry.  All people need companionship and God-ordained marriage, among other things, the most fulfilling, and ideal means of companionship. The sin from immorality is serious, because our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, and we have been bought with the blood of Christ therefore we should honor God with our bodies. The Lord God said: “ it is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.” Gen:2:18
He who finds a wife finds what is good, and receives favor from the Lord Pro:18:22
Paul advised that if God blessed anyone to remain single and morally pure, it is best to live in that way, but since there is so much immorality, each one should have his own wifeor her husband. Paul gives 3 clear and legitimate conditions that must be met to deprive each other,1. It must be by mutual aggreement, 2.it must be for alimited time,3. It must be for a purpose of prayer;  so that satan may not tempt you for lack of self control. Paul exhorts us to take up this weapon of  God – Prayer  - agaist the attack of satanic temptation.

Prayer
Lord  we know that we are created to bring praise and glory to you always. Protect us from the  satanic temptation , strengthen our minds and souls with prayerful moments  which will remind us that we are temples of holy spirit. Amen

Thought for the Day

Our purpose in life is to Glorify God. Marriage should help to protect us from sin.
