 Incorporated to be One Body

Colossians 4:2-6

V.6  Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone

The main focus of this passage is in verse 6, “Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone”. The word salt can be used as a metaphor because in Apostle Paul’s day salt was as valuable enough to be used as money. Salt was treasured for preservation and flavor. Similarly, a Christian way of life should be helpful and valuable, “flavored” differently from the message of non-believers.  This is to preserve the holy precious message of Christ.

Devoting ourselves for prayer (v,2)
Through our struggles of life, we need to trust the Lord and have strong faith. Prayer is a skill that takes time to develop. To grow one must practice, which means growth comes from prayer regularly. Eric Roberts quoted “Devotion to prayer springs from dependence on God’s power, desperation for God’s grace, and dedication to God’s mission”. We need to be salt to others in our lives through prayer.

Key Figures of Prayer  (v.3)
Prayer is a Christian’s lifeline to the Lord. Through prayer, we admit our dependence upon our heavenly Father. Through our prayers, we express our faith and living trust that he will answer our call and supply our needs. As salt is a preservative, we as Christians should pray for each other to help preserve society.

Importance of being a conscientious Christian witness (v 5,6)
We are reminded that we are recipients of grace. As Christians, we must be able to answer people, and to speak with grace, meaning humbly, respectfully, as one who knows the Lord’s grace. When we allow God into our lives, we become the salt of this world

.

Prayer
Dear Lord, allow us to be the salt of this world. We look up to you with our hearts and minds. Enable us to redeem the fulfillment of the world. Take my life Lord let it be consecrated Lord to thee. Help me to influence others and be the salt of this earth. Amen
