 Renewal of the Church

2 Timothy 3:13-17
V. 17: " so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work"

One of the things that 2 Timothy teaches us overall is faithfulness.  This passage significantly highlights faithfulness.  Those who are doing good or living right in the sight of the Lord pleases God, but also, it’s a warning on our human frailty.  We can live justly by constantly abiding by God, to whom we are accountable.  Verse 13 reminds us of evildoers and imposters that can go from bad to worse, and that is so much easier than the righteous to live more righteously.  Righteous living requires to walk with God, walk with good company, and keep a heart of the discipline.

We need to persevere in our faith.  The company we have makes a significant difference in our lives.  We are given the free will to choose in this world.  The question that we need to ask ourselves is if we are making godly choices or selfish choices.  Every single choice that we make has its inevitable consequence whether good or bad.  Paul reminds Timothy in v. 14 to retrospect the past of his life and to hold to the basic teaching of Jesus that is eternally true moving forward.

Today we need to direct our lives towards truth.  VV. 16-17 speaks of the Bible, God’s inspired Word which is trustworthy for us and is our guide to living.  It will keep us safe from falsehood and tell us how to live.  The famous words of Psalm 119:105 say “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and light unto my path”.  Our passion for the truth of the Bible, we must not ever forget its purpose, which is to equip ourselves to do good.  There are people who memorize Bible to prove themselves to others, which does not bring out an internal quest after God’s heart, and there are people who genuinely study scriptures to grow in relationship with God and as result lifestyle choices also mirror the grace of God.

Prayer
Triune God, guide me to understand right and wrong and to choose to live for you all throughout my life.  In Christ’s name I pray, Amen.

Thought for the Day
“The Christian life is not a constant high. I have my moments of deep discouragement. I have to go to God in prayer with tears in my eyes, and say, O God, forgive me, or Help me.”
Billy Graham
