Jesus Christ Fully Human and Fully God

Job 42: 1-6
V2 “I know that you can do all things; no purpose of yours can be thwarted.”

It is our belief and affirmation that our Lord Jesus Christ is Fully Human and Fully God. We believe that Jesus is one in substance with the Father and was present at the time of all creations and everything was created through Him.  Yet He came down to earth as a human being and lived as an ordinary person.

The book of Job is believed to be one of the first biblical books written. Job lived a successful but sinless way of life and yet was subjected to heavy losses and sufferings in an inexplicable manner. According to Bible, “In all this, Job did not sin by charging God with wrongdoing” (Job 1:22). However, in succeeding chapters one can see the disappointment of Job and his questioning of God for his suffering.  He even pleaded with God for an answer for his suffering. God’s response was, “Who is this that questions my wisdom with such ignorant words?” Job replied, “I know that you can do all things; no purpose of yours can be thwarted” (Job 42: 2). In this statement Job accepted the ultimate authority of God and acknowledged that God has a purpose for everything.  Though the name of Jesus is not mentioned in these passages, hermeneutically, one can see the fully God and fully human Jesus here.

God has a plan and God works out his plans by his own will and methodology. The very purpose of his begotten son to come down to earth is the result of this plan. The fully God Jesus took birth as a human being. He underwent temptation like any human being, and was tested like Job, but came out triumphant.  In St Mathew Chapter 26 vs 38 Jesus said, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death”. Job also complained to that extent. However, Jesus knew that it was the will of God that he be suffered and crucified. In this passage, Job acknowledges that God can do whatever he wills, that He is supreme, and that everything God plans will take place accordingly.

Jesus as fully human identifies with Job in his suffering and as fully God affirms His sovereignty and Job accepts this and confesses that thy will be done. Like Job let us also submit ourselves to the will of God.

Prayer
Dear Lord, we thank you for giving us an opportunity to understand your Divine purpose in our lives even when we go through very difficult time. Thank you for your son who suffered and crucified for us as a part of your plan to redeem humanity. Enable us to accept your plan in our lives even when we do not understand it fully. We ask in the matchless name of our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

Thought for the day
God has a plan for our lives and let us submit ourselves to that plan
