Faith in the Middle of a Storm

Acts 27: 18-26

v25 So keep up your courage, men, for I have faith in God that it will happen just as he told me.”

In Acts 27, Luke talks about Paul’s journey to Italy. Paul was held captive along with some other prisoners and they were handed over to a centurion named Julius. Their voyage on sea was not pleasant, the wind was picking up and it was difficult to keep the ship on course. The ship eventually gets caught in the storm and decisions were made to save the ship. They lightened the ship by throwing the cargo and tackle overboard. These actions were not enough, the storm continued to rage and those onboard lost hope of being saved. But one night, an angel of the Lord appears to Paul and tells him not to be afraid and that the lives of everyone will be spared.

There are times when we encounter a crisis and we are often quick to question God. Sometimes we may be so blinded by the situation that we forget that God is right beside us. This passage teaches us to keep faith no matter how difficult the storm in our life may be. Paul was aware of God’s promise that he would make it to Rome. However in the storm, it was easy to doubt and God reassured Paul. God also promised to spare the lives of everyone on the ship through Paul’s prayer. 2020 was a chaotic year for many of us. The pandemic altered the way which we once lived life and has brought a new norm. Through it all, God has guided us and made ways for us to adapt to changes. Exodus 14: 13 reminds us, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today”. Continue to trust in God’s word because he is in control of everything. 2 Corinthians 5:7 tells us, “We live by faith, not by sight.” It is only through faith we will see the purpose of the storm in our life. Lets remind ourselves, when the wind is controlling the ship, God is controlling the wind. May God bless us all.

PRAYER
Dear Lord, we thank you for all the blessings in our lives. We are not worthy of your grace and mercy, yet you bless us abundantly. We acknowledge that you are in control and that there is a purpose for everything in our life. Amen.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
“God allows us to experience the low points of life in order to teach us lessons that we could learn no other way”.
