 Light of the World

John 1: 1-15

V5 “The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.”

The gospel of John was written to introduce who Jesus is and why he came. Lord Jesus Christ came as the incarnate word and was born as perfect son of man. In the first four verses in John's gospel the word is introduced to us as the living, breathing human word of God who was in the beginning with God and through whom all things came into being. Jesus Christ is the eternal son of God. Jesus is the life and the light.

Light is used to symbolize God, faith and holiness throughout the scripture. In the beginning God said, “Let there be light.” Light is always good, beautiful, it is safe, and it is powerful. No matter what, darkness can never overcome light.

Jesus Christ came into the world as life- to breathe a new life into the lifeless spirit of man that lay in dead, in trespasses and sins and with no hope in the world. Jesus Christ came into the world as light- that will never be extinguished in the heart, and soul and mind of those who place their trust in the Lord.

Psalm 119:105 states, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” As Christians we are called to not only walk in the light but to be the light for others. To be a Christian you have to repent and trust in Christ alone for salvation. True faith in Christ alone will change your life and you will walk in the light and grow in grace. Whenever we start seeking the face of God, we get closer to light and the light shines brighter and brighter and it shows us our areas in life where we fell short.

Luke 11:33 states, “Your eye is a lamp on your body. If your eye is healthy your whole body is full of light, but if it is not healthy your body is full of darkness.” Be a pillar of light not for ourselves but for others. Let your light shine before others that they may see your good deeds and glorify your father in heaven.

PRAYER
Father, you are my Lord, my light and my Salvation. May your light shine through us and may your love bless those around us. In Jesus precious name. Amen.
