Word for the day by Christian Education Forum
Education Sunday
St. Mark 6 : 35-44
This
event is of critical importance, because it deals with our attitude towards
human
need. In verse 37, we read ‘You give them something to eat.’ Jesus is concerned
with
how we handle our resources, with how we go about meeting the need that
confront us.
Two Attitudes are evident here.
1. The disciples sensed no responsibility for the crowd (v36). They wanted to
get rid of
the people.
2. Jesus’ attitude was different i.e. if you know of people who have needs then
you’re the
one who’s responsible to help. You’re responsible for your world and people in
it.
Hence, individually and corporately, we are to respond to human need.
Verses 37-44 show attitudes toward resources;
V-37 Introspecting the ability to give
V-38 Searching to see what one can give
Vs-39,40 Organizing to use the resources one has
V-41 Being thankful for what one has, and can give
Vs-41,42 Giving what one has
Vs-43,44 Being watchful in handling the resources
The Earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in
it. Psalm 24:7
Oh Lord ! We know that you are the perfect provider and supplier. Accept our offerings and multiply it through your providence for the purpose and meaning of your will. Amen
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
We are to give what we have, no matter how small. We are to take all of what we have and give it to meet the need.
