COME HOLY SPIRIT, RENEW THE CREATION
Genesis 1:1-5
v 2,3 - “Now the earth was formless and empty…...and GOD said ‘Let there be  light and there was light’”.

In the book of Genesis, we see God creating this wonderful world for us. When God created the earth, he saw that it was dark and empty. His Spirit was hovering over it. Then God commanded and there was light. Through His Spirit and His word, we see God working and creating the right things in the universe to sustain our life.
Often in life, we come across situations of darkness and hopelessness. Just as at the time of creation, even now, God would send His Holy Spirit to work in us, renew us and bless us. By His word, God can turn our darkness into light. During depressing times, let us look up to Him for renewal of our joy, our faith, our health and our relationships. In our desperate times, God sends the right people into our lives. At other times, He chooses us to be a comfort for many people.
We all know the life of Florence Nightingale; she was also known as the “Lady with the lamp”. From a very young age she was active in philanthropy, ministering to the ill and poor people in the village. By the age of 16 it was clear to her that nursing was her calling and that it was her divine purpose. During the cholera outbreak and Crimean war, she made it her mission to improve the hygiene practices that helped significantly to lower the death rate. The soldiers and people were comforted by her endless supply of compassion. She was used by God to transform the lives of people in dark and helpless situations. God can use us also like her.
In the current situation of pandemic let us hold onto God. Instead of feeling frustrated sitting at home, let the Spirit of God hover over us and turn us into people who spread light. God has been gracious to use the right people to spread His healing. Let us remember all our frontline workers who like Florence nightingale are in a battle against the pandemic for us while we stay safe at home. And also let us be people who do not spread negativity, but rather the love of God through our phone calls, help and our witness to those who are in desperate need.
This reminded me of a song I learned during my Sunday school days, ‘Jesus bids us shine with a clear pure light, Like a little candle burning in the night, in this world of darkness so we must shine, you in your small corner and I in mine’. May God help us to shine as lights for everyone around us.
PRAYER
Dear Lord help us to shine like your light and help us to overcome our life’s situations with thy Spirit and Presence. Help us to be your witness as long as we live. Amen.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
If you light a lamp for someone else, it will also brighten your path.
