The Cleansing Christ
Zechariah 13:1-9
Vs 1 In that day there shall be a fountain opened to the house of David and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem for sin and for uncleanness.
The idea of God being a fountain to His people is frequently found in the Old Testament, but Zechariah's explanation and idea of God’s cleansing fountain is possibly the richest of all." Let us look at the three things about God’s fountain.
A. God’s fountain originates from His grace.
The Hebrew word for “sin” comes from a root meaning, “to miss”. The world disobeyed Jesus whom God sent to save them. They did not deserve His mercy or forgiveness, but God was gracious to cleanse them from sin and impurity. Together the words “sin and impurity” show that we all have missed God’s standard of holiness in our relationships with Him and with one another. And, our sins are repugnant and offensive to God. To try to cover our sins with our good deeds would be like putting on clean clothes over a filthy body. Forgiveness of sins can be attained through Gods favor and grace. The Old Testament may divide the world between the righteous and the wicked, but the New Testament is a book of grace.  In the New Testament we are all sinners who stand in need of God’s grace.”
 B. God’s fountain is Unlimited
God has an inexhaustible cleansing fountain to wipe away our sins and impurities. His grace is greater than all of our sins. Often times we think that the sins we committed are terrible; Yes it is true but God opens his cleansing fountain that rids all our impurities if we repent diligently. This is the very fountain that cleansed the sins of David, an adulterer and murderer. It cleansed the sins of wicked King Manasseh, who practiced witchcraft, offered his sons in the fire to false gods, and led Judah into horrible sin. It cleansed the sins of Paul, who described himself as “a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent aggressor.” But he went on to say “ the grace of our Lord was more than abundant” (1 Tim. 1:13-15). That same inexhaustible grace is available to all of us.
C. God’s fountain must be applied individually.
As God’s Spirit opens our eyes we will truly repent before Him, and mourn our sins. Let this mourning motivate us to jump into God’s cleansing fountain. We need to apply it individually to our hearts. The instant we do that, we will know the joy of God’s forgiveness. As 1 John 1:9 promises, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Let’s cleanse our sins in God’s fountain more often!

PRAYER
Dear gracious God I stand in admiration of the extent of your forgiveness.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
