Preparation to face the cross
Mark 10:32-54
Vs 34 "Three days later he will rise."
In this passage we see that Jesus was preparing his disciples about his death. Listening to him, the disciples were very uneasy and afraid. They were amazed at Jesus’ prediction of his death. They were afraid to face the future pain and uncertainty that comes with it. They were so anxious and unsettled in their minds, but Jesus ends the talk with a reassurance and promise that “After three days he will rise”.
Many times, God lets us go through bitter and tough experiences in life, when we feel anxious about our situations just like the disciples. But Jesus promises his presence and guidance with us always. Whatever situation or experiences Christ leads us through, be assured that he is with us through that experience. So how do we pass those days of discomfort and anxiety? By waiting on him and meditating on his promises, which will strengthen us and guide us. We may be living testimonies to people around us who watch our faith in the midst of tribulations.
On the other hand, in Mark 10:35-45, we see a silent proposition for position and authority being presented before Jesus. James and John, the both sons of Zebedee, wanted to be on the left and right side of Jesus’ throne. Many a times even though  we love the power, authority and blessings comes with being children of God. Verily, God does honor and grace us with blessings that many times we do not deserve. But we are never ready to take up the sacrifices and challenges that come with being ambassadors of Christ. For instance, let us look at the deaths of all Jesus’ disciples. Though they had the privilege to walk and live with Jesus, they suffered greatly for their faith and in most cases met violent deaths on account of their bold witness.
During this lent period, let us prepare our hearts and discipline our Christian lives to go out as living testimonies and ambassadors for Christ. Lean on him to withstand the trials we face, rather than relying on our own strength. We must grow stronger in our love for God and be strengthened in our faith to feel and sense the will of our Father for us. The Grace of God in union with Jesus is essential for our spiritual growth. In Luke 9:23 Jesus said, "If anyone wants to come with me, he must forget himself, take up his cross every day, and follow me".
Let me end this devotion by this portion from 1 Peter 2:9:
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.
PRAYER
Lord, lead us in your ways that we may mature in understanding your will for us in our lives. Purify us, mold us and make us to be an instrument for thee. Amen.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
“Even now,” declares the LORD, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning.” Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to the LORD your God, for He is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love, and He relents from sending calamity. Who knows? He may turn and relent and leave behind a blessing — grain offerings and drink offerings for the LORD your God. Joel 2:12-14
