Are You Ready for the Fight?
1 Timothy 6: 11-14

Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses (1 Tim 6:12).
To start with, Paul calls Timothy: 'man of God.' In the Old Testament, this term depicts the men commissioned by God to function as his spokesperson. But, the usage of the term in this portion shows a man who belongs to God and finds his true position in God, rather than in riches. This is a clear contrast to the greedy preachers mentioned in 1 Tim. 6:3-10. The apostle suggests to Timothy that, he is called out to do a very important business, than to care for the things of the world. Being the man of God, Timothy is to seek Righteousness, Godliness, Faith, Love, Patience and Meekness. Therefore, as a true believer of Christ, his life was in the state of warfare. He had his fight against Satan and his powers, Sin, Lust of the flesh, the World itself, and also the False teachers. He was not to entangle himself with the things of this life, which would have him the followers of one the mentioned 'groups.' Paul calls this fight as 'the fight of faith.' This was a contrast to the 'war of the law' which was dealt by Jews and also by the false teachers during that time. Here, Timothy is called to focus onto the Eternal Life, which is the prize set apart by God. This was in return to the confession made by him, in the light of the Gospel, in front of many.
Paul is advising Timothy to stand firm and fight well. No fight can be fought without having an aim. So, Paul says to Timothy to fix his eyes on the eternal life and be victorious till the last lap of life.
We all are fighters. Somewhere, down the lane, we have stopped fighting. We are happy with our comforts and cares. In these changing situations of the nation and world around us, this passage is call for us too. Whom do we want to follow? Whom do we want to stand? For what are we fighting?
PRAYER
Lord help us to stand firm and fight for good things.Amen.
