Role Of Christian Mothers

Timothy 1:1-7
I am reminded
of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Louis and
in your mother Eunice and I am persuaded, now lives in you also.(2Tim.
1:5)
Christian mothers must never underestimate their calling.
God has given principles in His word to guide mothers as they navigate
through the challenges of raising children. The way women can be
successful and passing on their faith to their children is by following
guidelines.
Godly mothers are woman of sincere faith:
Living your faith can start with simple things, like showing love,
kindness, and generosity. In 2 Timothy 1:5 we learn that his faith came
to him through his grandmother, Lois, and his mother Eunice. The Apostle
Paul's preaching may have been used by God to bring Timothy to actual
conversion, but behind his preaching were years of godly influence by
Timothy's grandmother and mother.
Godly mothers honor God's word and train their children in it:
The best thing you can do for your kids is to instill in them from an
early age the importance of reading, studying, and learning to apply
God's word will allow you to successfully pass your faith on to your
children. God's Word is mighty to save, but also is sufficient for all
life and godliness (2 Pet. 1:3, 4)
Putting God first: This means making the
commitment to seek God. But parents can help kids understand that God
wants them to be happy and successful even more than !hey do.
Acting right on purpose: This means treating
people with kindness, respect, and patience, even those that are hard to
love. Demonstrate your commitment and the value you place in an ongoing
relationship with God by finding ways to be a blessing. Kids learn best
by example and modeling your faith is the best example they will ever
see.
Susannah Wesley the mother of John Wesley the founder of the Methodist
movement had certain rules for teaching her children the priority of the
Savior: Teach him to pray as soon as he can speak; give him only what is
good for him when he asks politely; punish no fault confessed, but let no
sinful act to go unnoticed and reward good behavior. She was also
instrumental in his life that she inevitably affected the movement and
its direction.
Maybe you feel like a failure as a mother. God can use you as He used
Lois, a grandmother, and mother Eunice in Timothy's life. Walk with God
in sincere faith. Use His Word to lead your children and grand children
to the same sincere faith and to train them in God's ways. You will be
mighty in influencing our nation and even world history for Jesus' sake.
Prayer:
O Lord, grant us your grace to influence and train
our children by being sincere in our faith and obedience to your word.
Amen.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Mothers are the best motivators for children to lead a holy
life.
