God Brings Prosperity
Psalms 4
Many, Lord, are asking, "Who will bring us prosperity?" Let the light of your face shine on us. Fill my heart with joy when their grain and new wine abound. (Psalms 4:6-7)
King David was one of the most successful and celebrated kings of the Jewish kingdom and who was successful in consolidating a scattered community of twelve tribes in Israel to form one of the most cohesive nation in the eastern world in the old testament history. But the Bible celebrates King David and his legacy not just as a successful king he was pivotal and a pioneer in building up the spiritual foundation of a nation state.
Power of God as most powerful resource: In Psalm 4:1 we see David calling out to God in his distress and pain when he encounters an ungodly and their evil ways of life. As a King he knows that he cannot solve the problems of his kingdom by the material power in his possession so he depends on the almighty for guidance and strength.
V3. "The Lord will hear when I call out to him" is a powerful witness of the leader of a nation to his community. It sets a powerful spiritual legacy for Christians in the modern era to depend on the Lord alone when engaging in community work or duty of the state. He experiences the power of God as more powerful resource than all the wealth of the kingdom.
Light of God that illumines leaders: We live in a world where sin and its cravings have slowly entered into the psyche of the community and it had darkened our world. Human resource and complete dependence on it cannot enlighten the nation. So we need community leaders like King David who had deep faith in God and moral values to lead the community and the Nation at large. In our nation where prosperity and money power is seen as key to humanity's problems economic disparity and social injustice are increasing day by day. In this hour we need the light of God to shine upon the darkness of our community and illuminate us and to be genuine leaders to lead the community.

Prayer:
Lord, help us to depend on you to be perfect models of Christ in our community and in this world. Amen.
