People of God: Ambassadors of Christ

Binu Daniel

vs 20 We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.

I heard a prayer once to help Christians be like little mirrors walking around, that we may reflect the light of God onto everyone we meet. What are some characteristics of mirrors? Mirrors don't choose when to reflect what it sees.  It's purpose is to reflect and to constantly reflect.  Being Christ's ambassadors is similar.

We are called to be an extension of God's love and grace in all it's goodness, when we meet people.  A role of an ambassador is to represent it’s appointed one, whether a government/state/country or in this passage, God Himself.  Ambassadors recognize that their every word and action can reflect positively or negatively on their sender.  How are our thoughts, words and deeds today, reflecting God's appeal for His creation?  What are non believers in our workplace or the supermarket seeing in us that sets us apart?

Many of us have experienced Christ speaking to us in various forms.  Sometimes from reading the Word itself, sometimes through messages and devotion, but most often through speaking to fellow believers.  What can we as ambassadors of Christ say and do that reflects Him?  Speaking words of love and encouragement, rather than negativity is a good start.

A mirrors reflection of course is only as clear as the mirror itself.  This is where we are called to be reconciled with God.  Imagine a mirror that is cloudy with smudges.  The reflection in this mirror will be unclear.  The reflected image will be far from reality.  In our lives, the smudges are our sinful nature.    Reconciliation is the restoration of the pure and truthful relationship between God and us.  Restoration to the way He intended His creation to be.  In order to be the purest ambassadors of Christ we must be right with God first.

So lets us reconcile and be ambassadors and know that God is longing to use each of us to be His extension in this world.

PRAYER

Lord, help us, believers, to be clean and clear mirrors, that we may constantly reflect You in all we do.  Amen.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
God is longing to use us to appeal to His creation.  Let us reconcile and be available for His will to be done.
