Sabbath: Leading to the Perfection of Creation

Blessy Thomas

Long Island MTC, NY

9 So then, a sabbath rest still remains for the people of God; 10 for those who enter God’s rest also cease from their labors as God did from his. 11 Let us therefore make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one may fall through such disobedience as theirs.

This scripture passage describes the wonders, wisdom, and the work of God’s Word. The scripture tells us of what the Bible is: the word of God is living, active, sharp, but most importantly it is everlasting. It tells what the Bible does: it penetrates, divides soul and spirit, joints and marrows. It tells us why the Bible is unlike any book that has ever been written: everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of Him to whom we must give account. Are we committed to God’s Word? To those who respond yes, do we live it and do we obey it?

The Word of God is inerrant, changeless, timeless, and infallible. A trustworthy book. It is the same truths yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Even today what remains is the Sabbath-rest for the people of God. “Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. God blessed the seventh day.” (Genesis 2:1,3). God created the Sabbath as a blessing to man, not man for the Sabbath (Mark 2:27) - we are supposed to reserve the Sabbath only for Holy time with God. We see that God was pleased with His creations, that there was no more to create in that week that He believed what was more vital and needed at that time was rest, so He blessed it and made it Holy. From then on, the importance of the Sabbath was held as a commandment and observed in the time of the Israelites, Isaiah, etc. but more importantly that of Jesus’ time.

God wants us to rest, it is His law for us as His people to obey this and put all else aside to praise and worship Him for the blessings He has bestowed upon all of us. His Words are living and active but are we following them as we’re meant to be? Let us pursue our Father and seek His Almighty love for us.

PRAYER

Father God, we pray that You draw us to You, keep our hearts alerts, dependent on You, and make us not only hearers but doers of Your word. We pray that we seek You and uphold the Sabbath day to spend holy time with You. Amen.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Let us seek to uphold the Sabbath day and to keep it Holy as our Father in heaven created it to be.
