Visitation of Virgin Mary to Elizabeth

Koruthu Mathew,
Long Island MTC, NY

“Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her!” Luke 1: 45

Mary believes and accepts the Lord God when He told her that she would have a child, and she will be highly favored.

But, Mary knows that this birth is going to be surrounded by controversy – as her child has been conceived outside of marriage. Mary had to talk to someone. Elizabeth was exactly the right person for Mary to talk to. Elizabeth also is experiencing a pregnancy. Elizabeth’s pregnancy was also a miracle. She had become pregnant in her old age.

It is wonderful that the Lord God led Mary to Elizabeth. Elizabeth had so much to offer. She had the wisdom and experience of old age. She had experienced a lifetime of struggle over her barrenness. The Lord had prepared Elizabeth to be a blessing to Mary.  Elizabeth was a woman of faith. She had already experienced God’s wonderful power. And now the Lord wants to use her to guide and comfort Mary. The Lord wants to use her to prepare the way for Mary.

Elizabeth tells Mary that she and the baby are going to be the most blessed people on the planet.  It is exactly the kind of encouragement that Mary needed at that time. Elizabeth knows that the child is a miracle from God.

Both Mary and Elizabeth are strong women. They are godly women.  They have such a strong bond because they both know that they belong to their Father in heaven, and that He will look after them. And even though there are lots of uncertainties for both of them, they knew that their lives were in God’s hands. They are women of faith.  And God blessed them for their faith.

When we have faith God will bless us. He will also make us highly favored. That was true for Elizabeth.  It was true for Mary.  And it will also be true for us. And the Lord God has a certain purpose for each and every one.

PRAYER

Dear Lord, help us to grow in love and faith in You. Amen.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Blessed are you when you believe what the Lord says will be accomplished through you and through your children.
