Views from Egypt

Then he said, “I am God, the God of your father; do not be
afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will make of you a great nation there.
After hearing the great news that
Joseph was alive, Jacob packed up and moved his family to Egypt. Jacob offered
sacrifices and received assurance from God that Egypt was where he should go.
Jacob and his family settled in the region of Goshen.
As we can see, the Israelites did become a great nation, and Jacob’s
descendants eventually returned to Canaan. God told Jacob to leave his home and
travel to a strange and faraway land. But God reassured him by promising to go
with him and take care of him. When new situations or surroundings frighten us,
we need to recognize that we may sometimes experience fear.
To be moved by fear is an indication that we question God’s ability to take
care of us.
What are we willing to do for God? When God
speaks to us in a dream, how will we respond? Let us hope and pray that we
remember how Jacob responded in a way that was pleasing and acceptable in God’s
sight.
PRAYER
Almighty God, help us to
understand that peace does not come in rebellion or grieving, but is obtained
through the calm of the soul. Grant that we may have the power to
control ourselves and depend on Your strength. Amen.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and
supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. -
Philippians 4:6
