Word for the day by Christian Education Forum
St. Peters MTC, NJ
28 “Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy
burdens, and I will give you rest.
This portion is an invitation to the weary and the burdened people. The words 'come unto me' is the dearest, sweetest, and most comforting words ever heard by mortal ears. God promises us a gift of salvation and at the same time commands us to accept it.
Our Almighty God invites all of us to come to Him and gives special help to those who are burdened with feelings of inadequacy, restlessness and frustration. God has given us many promises on different occasions.
“I will be your God and you shall be my people.” Jeremiah 30:22
“Let not your heart be troubled, you believe in God and believe also in me.” John14:1
When we are passing through the waters of deep sorrow and despair, we may not get help from others, but we should remember that Christ is always there to help us. Jesus said "come believe in me and I will turn your storm into an everlasting calm. I will give you such rest that the world can neither give to you nor take away from you."
Isaiah 55:1 says “everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and you that have no money, come, buy and eat!"
When we trust in Christ our sins will be forgiven, our emptiness will be filled, the thirst of our soul will be quenched. To follow Jesus, in faith and obedience, yields a serenity that surmounts the trials and troubles of the day. The yoke is easy and the burden is light. When we place our problems in God’s hands, He will instill His peace in our hearts.
