Will You Answer the Call?

Abraham M. Cherukara

Carmel MTC, Boston

“A man of God came to me, and his appearance was like that of an angel of God, most awe-inspiring; I did not ask him where he came from, and he did not tell me his name;

 From the outside looking in, to the stranger unfamiliar with the context, these may seem as mere words of adoration, but to a Christian, anointed with the Holy Spirit, this is an example of the elusive aspect of our religion that we so dearly seek: Faith.

In this passage, we see the magnitude of faith and dependence exemplified by the wife of Manoah prior to the birth of Israel's deliverer, Samson. She never sought to question the commands of the angel, but instead understood her duty as a medium and carried out the will of God. In turn, she was gifted with a son that became the strongest man in the Bible and the savior of the Israelites.

We live in a world and time when the opportunities presented before us are so precious, not only because they are very limited, but because of the extensive competition present against us. However, we let our self-doubt and lack of confidence hinder our progression.It is this self doubt that is being considered as the biggest downfall of the new generation.

Whatever opportunity that we get is an opportunity given by God, so the fact that we don’t utilize it can be considered a sin as well as a hindrance to our own future. The one aspect of Manoah's wife that exudes amongst all individuals is Hope; Hope that our life will become better, Hope that we will become successful, Hope that we will lead a blameless life acceptable to God and Hope that a man will come to rescue us from all our sins. When we lay our lives in the hands of Christ Jesus, we are not only solidifying our trust in him, but are also exclaiming our gratitude and affection towards his sacrifice.

PRAYER

Oh Lord, we ask You for the courage and discipline to help us comprehend the extent of Your wisdom and guidance. Help us to overcome our pride and doubts and help us to understand that we are mere vessels of Your grace and counsel. Shield us from our temptations and obstacles and help us to answer your call. Amen
