Put on the Armor of Light
  Anjali Thomas

St. Thomas MTC, NY
12 the night is far gone, the day is near. Let us then lay aside the works of darkness and put on the armor of light; 13 let us live honorably as in the day,

The bible passage reflects on salvation and urges us to respond meaningfully by waking up out of the darkness and moving towards the light. We should stop our sinful acts and become desirable of being clothed in Christ. With the time we have, we should attempt to step out of our slumber and awaken to the bright life of Christ. A common saying I’m reminded of is “Live life to the fullest”. Are we living our life to the fullest in Christ?

The theme verse in this passage I’d like to reflect on is Romans 13:12. When I hear the word “armor”, I picture a strong soldier protected with heavy metal armor wrapped around him. The phrase “armor of light”, reminds me of the preparation and armor needed for a Christian to fight against the forces of darkness which Paul in this passage identifies as the desires of the flesh. The forces of the flesh are so strong that we will need a strong armor to withstand it.

We all face our moments of darkness and in those moments we don’t realize how much we stray away from God. The realization, that we are in darkness, should prompt us to get out and pull ourselves into the light. We have been given the assurance that we are not alone and that God is beside us awaiting our call. Therefore, we need to wake up and accept the light because this is our chance to live our life to the fullest.

We are called to put on the armor of Christianity daily! Take it one step at a time and we will start making great changes away from the dark towards Christ. We tend to get comfortable with our normal routines. Daily routines can sometimes become our steps into darkness.  It’s time to step out of these routines and shake things up! When even prayer becomes more of a routine, we  remain in sleep. Our strong convictions and our faith in God should be what others see when they look at us. We must reject all worldly desires and follow God’s commandments faithfully and adorn the “armor of light”.

PRAYER

Father, We love you and we thank you for always being by our side. Enable us to awaken from our sleep and walk in the light with you. Help us to be Christians that wear your armor of light. Amen.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Wear the “armor of light” at all times!
