Consecrated Life

21 and every cooking pot in Jerusalem and Judah shall be sacred to the Lord of hosts, so that all who sacrifice may come and use them to boil the flesh of the sacrifice. And there shall no longer be traders in the house of the Lord of hosts on that day.

In this passage, we read that even the most common of objects, such as pots, will be holy to the Lord.  The theme of this devotion is a consecrated life, a concept that seems easy to understand but not as easy to truly live.  As I studied this passage, I began to look at myself and ask - do I actually live a consecrated life?  Is my life truly an example of worship and devotion?

This passage made me think about three primary points as I tried to answer my own questions:

•    Every action, even in the most common actions, should be so that we may glorify the Lord.  I should find ways to worship in my everyday actions.

•    The combination of my every day actions makes up my days.  And my days make up my whole life.

•    If I find ways to worship in my every day actions, my life will be an act of devotion.

Breaking things down to my every day actions helps me truly assess how I can do better.  I find that it is easier to ask myself if I truly worship in my every day actions.  I think of my every day interactions with my parents, siblings, husband, co-workers, and friends, and I see that there are more and more opportunities for me to truly glorify the Lord.  That as I take every interaction in my life as an opportunity to be more Christ-like, I am building up to a life of true devotion.

This got me thinking that even the most mundane or common daily interactions can be an act of devotion.  Do I offer to help others even with the small things?  Do I find ways every day to show how much Christ loves me?  What can I do as I drive to work each morning or in my daily work meetings?  What more can I do each and every day?  In each action - even the small, routine, or mundane - we can each find ways to glorify the Lord!

PRAYER

Lord, we pray that you help us find ways each and every day to glorify you in our actions so that our lives may be an example of true devotion. Amen.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Find ways to glorify the Lord each and every day.
