Call and Commission of the Disciples

36 For you need endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised.

Imagine for a moment, that the disciples were just like you and me. In fact, they were just average people that Christ used to develop His church. These were men who were social misfits in their community, people who didn’t fit in or weren’t seen as leaders. Through those men, the gospel was told throughout the world. The disciples had faced many forms of suffering and persecution, but they persevered through it all for the gospel. Acts 1:8, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Hebrews 10:32-39 is an amazing portion from the Bible that talks about the call and commission of our Christian faith.  Hebrews pushes us to persevere in our faith, especially when we are faced with persecution and pressure in our daily lives. Although suffering may seem troublesome, if we persevere through it, we build our character and our patience (Romans 3:3-5). Through the battles that we face daily we’re able to become stronger Christians and examples to those around us. Our relationship with Christ grows when we know that Jesus is with is in our suffering and that one day He will return to take away all the pain and suffering.

The life of a Christian is difficult and we are faced with many trials and temptations. By persevering through it, we’re able to stand firm in our faith and receive salvation. There are always at least two options in every situation, we must always choose the option to follow Christ, in all that we do. Times of trials arise to filter true Christians and false or hesitant Christians. When you feel like giving up, rely on Christ to stand firm. We as Christians need to persevere because we need to show that we are committed to Jesus Christ.

The disciples are great examples since they have faced persecutions while spreading the gospel and have stood firm in faith. Even when they struggled and were tempted, they ran toward Christ instead of running away. We should follow Christ and encourage our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ, to persevere in faith. We have this community of faith to live for Christ and to spread His love to those that we come across. When we love others we are showing others what it really means to be a Christian (John 13:34).

PRAYER

Father, allow us to persevere through the trials and temptations, so that we can be more like you. Give us the strength to do what is right and to stand firm to Your ways. Help us today, that we may take one step closer to you as we spread Your Word and love. Amen
