Jeremiah 1:1-12

9 Then the Lord put out his hand and touched my mouth;
and the Lord said to me, “Now I have put my words in your mouth.
Our beloved, late Alexander Mar Thoma once said “Every Marthomite is a missionary”. Our first mission field is our home and the next could be our work places, schools, or possibly somewhere in another country but we were all called to fulfill a purpose. Now often times when we are tasked to fulfill something our first response is an excuse, “I don’t have time” or “I can’t do it now.” Jeremiah offered two immediate excuses in today passage: “I do not know how to speak & I am too young” (verse 6). Like Jeremiah, we limit ourselves in the eyes of the Lord when He has something greater in store for us.
Who knows the purpose of the chair you are sitting right now more than the carpenter that created it? In the same way, who knows what our purpose is more than God who created us? The middle of verse 5 reads “before you were born I set you apart”. God has prepared us and set us apart to fulfill a purpose here on earth. We might think we don’t have the physical ability to do something but God is not looking at our ability but our availability. Once we make ourselves available to Him, He will make our weakness our greatest strength! “For when we are weak He is strong” 2 Corinthians 12:10. In verse 9 of Jeremiah chapter 1, “the Lord reached out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me “I have put my words in your mouth””. Just like God provided for Jeremiah, He will provide for us.
New products come with an instruction manual, in the same way God produced us with our own manual called the Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth, the BIBLE. God has begun a great work in us. Once our purpose is fulfilled only then will He call us to be with Him in heaven. “I am watching to see that my word is fulfilled” verse 12.

PRAYER
Father God, we thank for
setting us aside for your purpose even though we are unworthy and full of
limitations. We ask that you reminds us that you will complete the good work
you started in us. Amen.
THOUGHT
FOR THE DAY:
Will you accept the Great Commission? “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few” (Luke 10:2).
