We Worship in Triune God

Jacob Joseph
St. John's MTC, NY
26 Then God said, “Let us make humankind in our image, according to our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the wild animals of the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.” 27 So God created humankind in his image, in the image of God he created them;male and female he created them.

We have all heard the story about God’s creation countless times before.  So much so that eventually our minds start to become numb towards the awesomeness of these few verses. We always say or hear that we were created in God’s image, but what does that mean? Some interpret “image” or “likeness” as looking like God.  However, I believe that the fact that we were created in his own image means that we were created to resemble/ represent God. Man is unique because God created them to not only have a physical body, but he has blessed us with a spiritual body so that we can maintain a relationship with him. God made us the most complex of all his creation so that we can care for his creation, and build his kingdom.

Man was created for communion. Our communion and fellowship is a reflection of God’s nature and His love. In the Garden of Eden, man’s principal relationship was with God, and it shows the fellowship that we as humans are to have with God, one another and creation. “Every time someone marries, makes a friend, hugs a child, or attends church, he is demonstrating the fact that we are made in the likeness of God.”

Our problem these days is that many of us have trouble listening to God’s will.  We have let our selfish desires take place, and it leads to the massive destruction of what was.  We have taken the words “rule over” and twisted them to make us think that we are kings who have the right to destroy what God worked so hard to create.  “Rule over” should be interpreted as carrying out God’s will.  We are simply stewards of God’s creation, and should learn to appreciate the complex system that God has set forth.  We have become so distracted from the moment, to understand God’s awesomeness.  He has done so much for our benefit, so it is only right that we serve and worship him as the Triune God.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, we thank you for the abundance of blessings that you have given us.  You have given us all a purpose, so we ask that give us the strength to fulfill your will.  Allow us to be able to take care of this beautiful creation and continue to preserve it for future generations. We thank you for blessing us with the opportunity to have a relationship with you, and we ask that allow us to continue our fellowship with you, one another, and creation.  In your most precious name we pray, Amen.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
“I praise the Lord here today. I know that all my talent and all my ability comes from Him, and without Him I am nothing and I thank him for His great blessing” – Ernie Harwell
