Celebrating the Joy of Salvation

Dr. Jeeji Mathunny
Epiphany MTC, NY
3 for you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

Sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires, greed, anger, rage, malice, slander, filthy language, lying – what a list of sins. We are all guilty of one or most or all of these sins.  Notice that there is no hierarchy of sins. So we cannot look at the next person and say our sins are not as bad as that person’s sin.  Each of these sins invites the wrath of GOD.  GOD, who created us in HIS image, did not create us to take part in the desires of the flesh. But when we choose this path, HE gives us over to our sinful desires (Romans 1:24). This is enough to eternally separate us from the love of our Heavenly Father. What a miserable state of existence!

GOD, however, does not let us live in this misery. HE wanted us back for HIMSELF. HE wanted to love us unconditionally.  So HE paid the ultimate price- the life of HIS SON in exchange for our worthless ones.  That exchange gave our lives worth that we did not have to earn. GOD did not just restore us to be servants, or to a place in creation of less value.  HE wants us to share in the glory of JESUS.  That means, when we die to our sins in CHRIST, we are a new creation.  We are sinless again in the eyes of our Father. This is HIS pleasure and HIS gift to us. Do you believe that? Or do you dwell on your sins and your unworthiness of HIS grace? Are you looking for ways to repay GOD for what HE has done for you?  Can you not see the value that GOD has placed on your life?

Choose to believe the truth that your sins are forgiven in JESUS.  Stop wallowing in your guilt. Open your eyes to HIS promises to you and rejoice, for you are glorious in GOD’s eyes, just like HIS SON.  YOU ARE HIS PRECIOUS CHILD. HE values your life. Live everyday in the knowledge of that truth. Take joy in your salvation through JESUS.  True joy comes when we recognize the work of salvation the FATHER has done for us. Let this Easter be a joyful acknowledgement of the saving grace of our Father.

PRAYER

Dear GOD, even though we can never fully understand the cost to you of our salvation, help us to not live wondering how we can repay your gift, but to live joyfully in the knowledge of your love for us. Help us to take on the image of your Son and to strive to live our lives free of sin and free from guilt. Amen.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
"Joy does not come cheaply.  It comes at great expense to God.  He lays up the treasure of joy in heaven through the sacrifice of Christ." - John MacArthur's sermon, "the joy of salvation, part 1"
