True Worship that Liberates
Revelations 14:1-7

7 He said in a loud voice, “Fear God and give him glory, for the hour of his judgment has come; and worship him who made heaven and earth, the sea and the springs of water.”

Imagine the sound of a single harp: crisp, specific and unique. Now imagine that one harp as a mere fraction of a thundering, echoing, massive array of instruments resounding with an immense choir of singers all in front of the throne of God, worshiping him in purity, in truth and without blame.

The Greek root of the word “worship” means to bow down and kiss. This two pronged approach reminds us of our position as God’s creation: both in submission and adoration. The physicality of bowing down shows our vulnerability. In this action you are giving a higher power control over your life. Lord, help me submit every facet of my life to you. To kiss shows affection, an intimate relationship with the Father. Lord, my relationship with you is a priority.

The weapon of worship shows our submission and adoration to the Father and has the power to refresh us. 1 Samuel 16: 23 shows the interaction between David and King Saul. “Whenever the spirit from God came on Saul, David would take up his lyre and play. Then relief would come to Saul; he would feel better, and the evil spirit would leave him.” Music has a way of transcending what words cannot express. In the Old Testament we find this true as David served Saul with his lyre.

Do we sing praises when things are going well and stifle our praises when times are bad? We should be more inclined to sing praises in all our seasons and be refreshed from the experience of worship. Revelations states that there were 144,000 redeemed from the earth. They have been pure, told no lies, and without blame. (v.5) They sing on one accord, a unification that is only possible through Christ. How much more then are we required to be genuine in our worship here on Earth? Psalm 30: 4 “Sing to the LORD, O you saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.”

PRAYER

Lord, humble my heart as I seek an intimate relationship with you. I will worship you in all my seasons. Amen.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
How can I show those around me that I worship a powerful God?
